Hello everybody,
Wowie! A whole year has passed since I got sick. A lot has happened and now that I feel all better I can tell you about it.
On August 2, 2006 I went to Hackensack Hospital for the first time to get the special medicines to make the rest of the “boo-boo” in my head go away. The doctors and nurses gave me these medicines in one of my “tubies” and because the medicines were really strong they needed to give them to me slowly and for six months. I don’t know how to tell time yet, but Mommy and Daddy and the rest of my family said it seemed like a really long time.
Sometimes the medicines were given to me in the hospital by the doctors and nurses and sometimes the medicines were given to me at home by Daddy and Aunt Amanda. These medicines were really strong and almost every time my tummy got really sick and I didn’t feel like eating so I got skinny. These medicines also made my hair fall out. Its all coming back and I am eating a lot now so as Mommy says “no worries”. I also had to get shots to help me recover from the special medicines the doctors gave me. Sometimes I got these shots at the hospital and sometimes Uncle Anthony or Grandma gave me the shots at home. The doctors and nurses had to give me a lot of other medicines besides the special ones for my “boo-boo”. Mommy and Daddy were telling Uncle Anthony and Aunt Amanda that I had over 40 different types of medicine.
For a week or two after the special medicines I had to get blood and platelets from other people to help me get better. I know a lot of people contacted Uncle Anthony to help me by donating blood or platelets. Thank you so much to everyone; your kindness and generosity helped me heal.
Over the 6 months that the doctors gave me the special medicines, I spent a total of 87 days in the hospital and thanks to all the wonderful nurses I was able to go home on January 16, 2007. While I was in the hospital, Aunt Vinnie made sure that everyone was well fed. Many of those days she made dinner for Mommy and Daddy and whoever else was in the hospital visiting me, and when we were home she made many dinners too!
I was looking forward to going home since I had not seen my dog Rudy for a long time. But I could not see him right away because I had something called “stem cells” given to me to help me recover even faster. At first, those made me pretty sick, but I did get better a lot faster. After another 45 days I was finally able to see my buddy Rudy. He gave me a really big sloppy kiss; I missed him too!
In March Dr. Friedman took out the “tubies” the doctors used to give me medicine. Everyone was really happy that day! Mommy and Daddy and Uncle Anthony took me to the park and I got to jump in puddles!
On May 19th, Mommy and Daddy had a really big party at Nana and Poppy’s house for my birthday. A lot of my family and friends were there. There were clowns and a petting zoo and pony rides. I really liked the pony and Uncle Anthony promises me that he will get me a pony when I am ready.
I am back at Nana’s in the daytime so Mommy can go to work. Things are good now and basically back to normal. I still go to see doctors and I also go for therapy, but I am talking and walking just like other kids. I am enjoying the nice weather and I have discovered the wonders of sand and water.
I pray for you, please continue to pray for me.
Thanks to everyone for everything.
Love, Elizabeth Anne
